News to my Pink Floyd collection

Last saturday I sent my boyfriend on a party. At this party he talked a bit about Pink Floyd to someone, and this one guy said he had some Pink Floyd cd's he never listened to anymore. So he was wondering if I wanted them. I thought it was a joke, until he showed up at our door yesterday. Santa Claus actually showed up!

I'm a lucky duck!

I wasn't sure what I was getting, so it was a big surprise. I got some texts that saturday about what it was, but the message was hard to understand.
What I got was a "Syd Barrett - Crazy diamond" - The complete recordings. So it was a box containing the three Syd Barrett solo albums - "The Madcap Laughs", "Barrett" and "Opel". I actually just owned one of these records before, so now I have them all. In the box, there was also a 24 page book and all the cd's include bonus tracks! My Syd Barrett collection is getting better, and I love it!

My two new treasures

I am one of 1500 with this album. I feel honoured!

Number 990 of 1500!!

There are two discs in this cd.
Disc one:

Pink Floyd - Live Anthology

I've had this dvd for about 10 years. I watched parts of it a few times, but then I forgot all about it. I've brought it with me wherever I moved, but it's just been standing there. I don't know why I didn't think of watching it again.
So yesterday, after I watched Live at Pompeii, I wanted to give this live dvd a try. It has some great live clips from different times and places. It's a secret treasure. On the back of the dvd cover, you can see the different songs on the dvd. But there is actually one song that is not mentioned. "Atom heart mother"!!!

The dvd cover

I wonder why that is! Imagine my surprise. Sitting in the couch, drinking beer and relaxing to the dvd. All out of a sudden, I thought I heard something that sounded like "Atom heart mother". And there it started. I sat with my mouth open for at least five minutes. It turned out to be very good live version of the song. Which I've had problems finding before.

The fab four

The version of "Atom heart mother" was filmed at a open air gig in Japan, so you have some clips from the concert and some clips with the band at the airport,  around the are where the gig found place etc. I loved it at once. I don't know how I wasn't able to notice it before. I feel ashamed! A Pink Floyd fan like me should know this. But it's also good to learn something new and discover new treasures.

This live dvd was released 10 years ago (2004), and I bought it as soon as I found it. The fun thing about this dvd is that there are songs that Pink Floyd performed live from 1968 and up to 1980. And all the songs are performed at different places. A special concept, but also brilliant.
On this live dvd you have songs like "Jugband Blues", "Sysyphus", "Cymbaline", "It would be so nice" (unfortunaly it's only a very short part of the song) and also "Comfortably numb". There is a great mix between some well known songs and a few more 'rare' songs. By rare I mean that not everyone knows the songs. Good on them, they have some amazing songs to discover.

Lulubelle III  - "Atom heart mother" cover

As you might already know, my favourite part on this dvd is "Atom heart mother", and I am watching it in this very moment. It's gonna be my favourite live song for a long time! I felt that I needed something new and unknown, and here I go, discovering this dvd and that "Atom heart mother is on it!
Unfortunaly, I can't find this version of "Atom heart mother" on youtube, so I want to recommand you all run to a store near you and buy the dvd. The song last for about 17 minutes, so it's absolutely worth to buy the dvd. The other songs are great too - but I found my favourite!

Happy friday everyone!

Now I will enjoy the rest of the song, because lucky for me, the song last for a long time. And then there will be more Pink Floyd music for the rest of the day. It's Pink Floyd friday, so just sit back, relax and listen to the greatest music of all times!

Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii

After a busy summer at work so far, I now have two days off work. Which is great! The weather in Norway is amazing! It's so warm, that I'm all confused. It's Norway. We rarely have weather like this. So I should really be outside and enjoy the weather. But I got stuck in my couch with a beer and Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii dvd. Well, that ain't wrong either.
Lately I've listening to loads of different music, so today I felt that I missed Pink Floyd. So what way to make it better, than put on this dvd? Hell if I know. So that is what I'm gonna do this thursday evening.

Yay - Pink Floyd thursday

This dvd is one of my favourite live PF dvd. You get to see them play a few really great songs, and also some scenes with the four great men. They are all sitting on a cafe and doing nothing special (exept try and order crustless pie - that's you Nick!). They just sit there and talk. They also get interviewed. By wathching this dvd, you get a bit of everything.

I remember laughing a lot the first time I watched this dvd. They are all so charming and funny. I'm still laughing to be quite honest. The dvd makes me happy! And it makes me want to watch all the pink floyd dvd's and listen to all the different albums. So on my day off work tomorrow, I will enjoy as much Pink Floyd dvd/music as possible. That is what I call a day off work.

Live at Pompeii is a 1972 live dvd/documentary, and as you all probably know, it's filmed in Pompeii (Italy). Pompeii is a place I've always wanted to visit. From my days in primary school, volcanoes has facinated me. And to go to a place which was buried in after a volcano eruption, AND where my favourite band have been, would blow my mind. I've been talking about going there for years! And someday I will go. It's on my bucket list.

A brilliant thing about the part of the movie where they perform their songs, is that there are no audience. So no screaming and cheering (no one like me that is). So you get to focus on the music and the band. There is no one there to disturb the fab four in acton.
The interviews are not filmed in Pompeii. They are filmed at Abbey Road Studios. The dvd was re-released a few years after with the interviews and some parts of the band working on "Dark side of the moon". That is the dvd I'm watching now.

And now I will have to pay more attention to this dvd, so I'm gonna end the blog here today. I will upload a few youtube clips for you all to enjoy this thursday evening.

From the song "A saucerful of secrets".

One of my favourite interview parts in the movie

New Pink Floyd album

Yes, the big seacret is out. I had no idea, so I was quite shocked when I found out today. Due to migraine, I was not able to read much about it until later this day. At first I thought it was a joke, and started feeling sick of all the different rumours around the band. New reunion. Concerts. Etc. There are told many lies. But this one is not a lie. Which is amazing!! I'm getting very exited.

with that smile - it have to be good!

The album will be released in october, so I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that the album will be good and that I like it. As far as I understand it, it's mostly just a David Gilmour album, but there will be materials from Richard Wright as well. If Nick Mason is in it too, I don't know. I doubt it. But I'v heard that Roger Waters won't be joining.

I would love a new album from these three guys.

It feels quite strange that there will be a new Pink Floyd album. Especially if it's only one from the band who is making it. I guess he still can use the name, but if none of the others are participating, maybe he should use it as a solo album?! But who am I to tell. It might be a brilliant idea. I know I am exited, but of course, also a bit sceptical. It's been 10 years since the last album, "The Division Bell". That turned out to be a great album. So I'll just hope the next one will be good too!

It's gonna be strange with a Pink Floyd album without this lovely man and his super talents on keyboard/piano/vocals...

The name of the album is said to be "The Endless River". This is a line from "High Hopes" from the "The Division Bell" album. I think that Polly Samson - Gilmours wife, has played a big part on the abum as well. It was actually her tweet who let me know about this new coming album. That should be a reliable source. Also, one of the backgrounds singers also confirmed that the album is going to happen.

So then we'll just have to wait and see what we'll get in october. I will try and not get too high hopes of a new masterpiece, but I would love it!

'Please, let it be good'!

Wishing you all a great weekend with loads of Pink Floyd music. And here is a song for you to enjoy this saturday evening. Great animation to it as well.
