Happy birthday Jon Carin

Today is Jon Carins birthday! He is now 48 years old. Yay Jon!

For those of you who don't know who Jon Carin is, I will tell you! I've seen him live 11 times, but I never got to meet him. And that is a bit sad, because he seems like a really nice and down to earth man. AND he is a genious on the keyboards, synthesizer, guitar, etc  and his voice is amazing too. So for the last years, Jon have been on tour with Roger Waters, but he has also been playing with David Gilmour and Pink Floyd. So he is well known in the Pink Floyd world. Jon has been playing for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour and Roger Waters for the last 27 years. I think he like the music!

I really do admire what he is doing. He is such a great musician, and he has been playing with my favourite band for a so long time. I am crossing my fingers that "The Wall" tour will be coming back to Europe soon, so I get to see him again, and the rest of the brilliant people Roger has been choosing to play on his tour. It must happend. I am not done yet ;)

So I wish Jon Carin a great b'day, and hope that his day is going to be great, and filled with joy and happiness! Shine on Jon!

This is from the live dvd "In the flesh" and I choose to show you the song "Dogs" where Jon Carin plays a big role. Wonderful voice indeed!

Pink Floyd party

Well, it's finally saturday, and I'm having some friends over tonight for a Pink Floyd evening. That means something good to drink, some snacks and of course the greatest music ever made on the stereo. Unfortunaly I don't have too many friends who like the music, so there will be a small party. I reckon that over 50% of my PF friends lives in another counrty. Norway is not a good country to live in if you like musick like Pink Floyd, Beatles and other music that was made on the time where people made their own songs and were able to play instruments.

Bring on the great music!

When I meet new people, and they tell me that they like old music, I'm in shock. I'm not used to it, so it surprises me every time! One of the girls that are attending the party tonight, is one of my best friends, and I just met her about two years ago. I was living with a childhood buddy of mine, and he had a friend he'd met a few years ago, and one night, two years ago, we were having a get-together. That was the first time I met Linn. We did not talk so much in the beginning, but when we got to talk about music, she said what she'd liked, and the first thing I ever said to her was "I like you!". She had this great taste in music, and later on I found out that she was a Liverpool supporter as well. And since then we've been great friends! She is the girl I invite on a thursday evening to drink wine and listen to Pink Floyd, Beatles and Springsteen.

Me & Linn on one of our thursday nights

Other then her, a girl I am studying with will be attending too. So we are three people. But what can make three people happy on a saturday evening? PINK FLOYD!

Me & Aina at a concert

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with Pink Floyd on the stereo!

Brit Floyd

Last tuesday, I went to my second Brit Floyd concert. I saw them last year as well, so I couldn't miss the show this year! And I'm glad I went. These guys are brilliant musicians! All of them plays a big part in the show, and they are one of few bands who plays music that is not the most known songs.

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?!

Before the show I went to Bergen with my boyfriend to meet one of my dearest friends Linn. We went out for dinner and then we went to have pre-drinks at one of Linn's friend. We had a great time and were of course listening to Pink Floyd. After a while, my sister and a friend of her joined us and my dad met us about 20 minutes before the show. We went to buy some more drinks and then we went to find our seats. We sat on the second row, so we got to see everything close up! I had no one in front of me, so that ment that no one could tell me to shut up if I sang too much or made to much noise. And that is something I always do when I'm listening to great music!

From 'Time'

The show started around 20.30, and the light went down, and the animation and sound started to play. There was no one on the stage yet. The animation is quite similar to the original animation, but they have made it to 'their own'. The sounds were getting higher and we could start to hear clock ticking from 'time', bells ringing from 'high hopes', the sound of money from 'money', and what impressed me the most was that they had sounds from the song 'several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict'- I've never heard another cover band using that song! So at that moment, I knew I was up for something great!

He threw me his guitar pick!!

The band came on stage, and they started with 'Shine on you crazy diamond' and during that song they showed lots of pictures of Syd Barrett. And I got tears in my eyes! And then they actually followed up with 'See Emily play'! That is a great song by Syd Barrett, so I loved that I got to listen to it that night. The deal is that in the local paper some people wrote that since the band was playing two days in a row in Bergen, there were going to be two different set lists as well. But that was not true. So we'd kinda expected some other songs, that was never performed, but I didn't mind that much, since I love it all.

I love this picture, and I always get tears in my eyes when I see it. This is from the song 'wish you were here'

Brit Floyd performed songs from many different albums. The guy who were singing, had such a wonderful voice. He didn't sound like Roger, David, Rick or Nick, but the voice was so beautiful, and it was suitable to all the songs. It could be soft like David and Rick's but also a bit more sharp like Rogers. It was really fun listening to him! He did a good job. And then you have the guitar players. They were great too! They were playing the guitar but they were singing too. The drums was amazing, but they were a bit loud on 'Echoes' during the legendary keyboard & guitar solo. The sound of the keyboard was hard to hear, cause they had decided to put in a drum solo as well. So that was not my favourite part, but it was still good. And yes, they played 'echoes' from beginning to the end.

The man with the great voice

When the show was about to be over, the band told us that they would put the focus on the Roger Waters 'The Wall' live tour that has been going on for the last two years, and so they started of with 'Hey you'. They did a great job, but not as good as Roger Waters and Robbie Wycoff does it on 'The Wall'!! I thnk me and Linn agreed that it was not as good ;) We didn't say a word, but we just sent each other a few looks, and than we were agreed. We often had these amazing evenings together, just me and her, and we are drinking wine and are listening, singing and dancing to Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen. So we know what we want to hear!!

Me & my great friend Linn
Dancing on the table during one of our girl nights

The band played from 'The Wall', disc 2 all the way to 'Run like hell'. And that was the song they ended with. (They did not play 'The show must go on'!) And when they were performing 'Run like hell', the vocalist had put on a leather coat, like the one that Roger wears, and it looked like he hda a great time on stage during that song!

Guitar player number two

It ended with that song, and the band was getting great chearing and aplause! Almost everyone was standing up! It was such a great ending, and I had been standing up and was dancing to the last song. The guitar player on the left side, was throwing his guitar pick, and I ran to catch it! I was sending him big smiles when I got it, and I hope he saw how glad I was! That was actually my first thing that I've catched from the stage during a show! The drum player walked over to the rest of the band, and we had eye contact before he threw me his drum sticks!!! I got to catch the one of them, but there was a stupid man who took the other one, even though everyone could see that I was the one the drum player was throwing them at. The guy who took the other one was sitting still suring the entire show, and he didn't clap to all the songs. He did it just to be mean I think. But I got one, and I'm happy for it :)

For all of you that haven't seen Brit Floyd before, go see the show if they are coming to a city near you! :)

Wish you were here

High hopes - for my sister <3

Atom Heart Mother

On this day, 42 years ago, the album "Atom heart mother" was released. This was 19 years before I was born, but that doesen't matter! I've been thinking many times that I was born a bit too late. Loads of people my age listen to all the music that is played on the radio and all the new songs by these people who don't make their own music, and they usually don't play any instruments themselves. I don't like that very much, so that is one of the many reasons why I like music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Back then, people knew how to make music!

The cover of the album. The cow's name is Lulubelle III

This album, is very special. The first song is a 23 minutes long song with the title "Atom heart mother". It is an instrumental song, and I think it is absolutely wonderful. 23 minutes where you can forget about anything else and just dissapear into the song. This song is followed by "If", "Summer 68" (which is one of my many favourites), "Fat old sun" and the album ends with "Alans psychedelic breakfast". All in all it's a wonderful album from beginning to end. The first and the last song is instrumental, and that gives the album a great quality. These are also songs that lasts for over 6 minutes. The three songs in the middle are songs with wonderful lyrics and they sounds so different then the instrumental songs. The album is weird in one way, and it's brilliant in another way.

I will recomand you all to listen to the album, and give yourselves time to listen through the whole album! It is indeed great!

Hope you all have had a great day, and that the rest of the week will be good too!
Shine on

Roger Waters live from 2006-2012

Me on the stage in Oslo, before the concert

Ahh, just had one of those days where all you can think of is how wonderful music Pink Floyd made and how wonderful it was to see Roger Waters live, performing "The Wall".
I've probably written it before, but I went to 3 Roger Waters concert during "Dark side of the moon" tour. I thought this was amazing!! I've been a fan for so long, and then suddenly an old friend of mine called me to bring me the good news that Roger Waters was coming to Norway. At first I didn't believe it, but after sercing on the internet, I got the confirmation I needed! He was coming, and I had to go to Oslo to see him. Not a problem, even though I could be unlucky enough to get choosed to have an oral exam the day after the concert! I brought my family and two good friend of mine, and we headed for Oslo!! I was lucky not to be choosed for the exam, the weather was amazing, and I got to see my hero, LIVE, and on stage in Oslo, june 14, 2006. This day changed my life!!

Got to hold Davids favourite guitar, Rose (Oslo)

The concert was a thousend times better then I would ever expect!!! The songs he played was amazing. During the first half, he played different songs from different albums, and the second half was "Dark side of the moon". Just brilliant. And it was in fact at my first gig that I noticed David Kilminster. I knew all the people who were going to be on stage (seen them on live dvd's and so), but the Killer, I'd never seen before, and he was standing just a few meters from me. I was totally amazed by his guitar playing. I later got to know him on the internet, and last year, we met for the first time! He is such a great guy and so nice, so I am very glad I got to meet and know him. I concider him avery good friend.

Me and Pat Lennon (vocal) (Oslo)

The year after the concert, Roger had the same tour, but this time he brought it to Bergen (I live about 20 minutes from there!!). I did of course go to that concert as well! It was really good this time as well, the only negative thing was that it was indoor, and I was all up in the front, and I almost passed out during the last song, since it was so warm and not any room to move. So that sucked, but it was still amazing. AND one year after that again, Roger didn't come to Norway, but he was going to Denmark, and so I went to Denmark. It was too close to miss it! That too was a really great show. So 2006, 2007 and 2008 I got to see Roger and his band live!! And then he didn't return in 2009, and I was fearing that I'd seen the last of him.

Me and Snowy White (Oslo)

Luckily I was wrong! He came back in 2011! I bought tickets in 2010, almost a year before, so I was exited and was counting down the days. Because this time it would be something new! He was going to perform "The Wall". That is an album I really do love, and always had. Been amazed by the songs, lyrics, animations etc. Everything was so powerful and different. And it was! On the first concert, in the beginning during "In the flesh?" I was crying like a baby! I was so happy to be there and felt so unbelivable happy! I was wondering what I had to do to deserve this. The show went on, and I loved every minute of it!! And I think my family loved it too. During tht one concert, they all got their eyes opened, so they could finally see what the fuzz was about.
For years I've been torturing them with my knowledge of the band and the music, and I would get sick nd tired of it too! haha, but I couldn't help it! I'm not a school smart girl, but I know my Pink Floyd!

After the gig in Oslo, we were planning to go home, but 'out of the blue', we got five new tickets for the show the day after, so we had to cansell our flight and post-phone our trip back home! If this had been during the "Dark side of the moon tour", I'm not sure how easily my family would just post-phone everything, but after "The Wall", we all agreed to saty one more day. And after that it all begun! Just a few months later, me, my sister went to Denmark to see a concert, and then we went sraight to Germany, where we met my dad, and we got to see two more concerts. After this, we were sure that this was it. But we were wrong...

Before my very first "The Wall" concert

I got to know that Roger was going to Australia, and since I've been living down there for about 5 months earlier, I really wanted to go, and my parents, sister also wanted to go, so we went. In the wonderful land down under we got to see two concerts in Brisbane and one in Sydney. We had a wonderful trip, and the concerts just made it even better.

David Kilminster and me (Sydney)

The shows that Roger put up, is breathtaking! He is such a brilliant man, and he is able to collect the most brilliant musicians! It's just wonderful how one person can love music like that. That I want to travel the world to experience it, and that I'm never getting tired of it. That is what a real hobby should be all about!

I'll see you all on the dark side of the moon. Or the wall.
We're all lunatics
